ImageThree students from Durango and one from Pagosa participated in a rewarding weekend in Carbondale.

A four day weekend away from parents and with about 80 other kids the same age from all over the southern half of Colorado.  That should sell itself.  Devin Lewis, Kat Sullivan, Aiyana Sullivan, and Kitman were the lucky recipiants of the Rotary Scholarship to the Rotary Youth Leadership Award program.  Riding to Carbondale with John Angst on Friday and returning the same long drive on Monday were the low points of the weekend.  In between there wasn't time to be bored, lonely, or alone.  From check in and getting a room in the dorm at the Springdale campus of the Colorado Mountain College there wasn't a spare minute until the closing assembly and final good byes..  The staff kept everyone busy and engaged. There were group and personal activites, games, challenges, personal reflections, and even some "homework". Each participant learned about leadership skills, their own abilities and how they might further develop them.  All four came away saying it was one of the best weekend "camps" ever and each one came away with over 70 new friends with whom they now share a bond.

July 25 Devin Lewis gave a presentation to the club about his experience.  He was enthusiastic and encouraging of the club to continue supporting this oppoturnity for Durango students.
